I try to remember to see and feel the magic of the 'ordinary' things that are all around us. It is so important to acknowledge the beauty of these 'ordinary things' to balance out all of the challenges that life continually throws us. When I see that beauty around me, I feel like the King of Ordinary Things.
THE SHOW
I feel like we are being intentionally distracted in this country to stop us from asking difficult questions or speaking out against the powerful in this country. The powerful just need us to be cogs in their money-making machines. They don't need our opinions. The powerful particularly includes the media barons. They should be holding politicians to account. Instead they manipulate them to get better deals for themselves.
FIGHT FOR THE TREES
As the song says, 'We can't live without the trees'. It's a truth that we, politicians and money-grubbing earth-plunderers seem to forget. Nature will remind us one day - and unfortunately that day will be too late for our survival.
MODERN WORLD
I wrote this song to remind us how it is that we non-indigenous people find ourselves living here in Australia.
I wrote this song to remind us of the uncomfortable truth that we live on stolen land.
I wrote this song to remind us that we do not live in a 'post-colonial' country, it is still a colonial country. Why do I say this? Because First Nations people still have very little power in this country. They can still have their land taken away from them by mining companies in the same way that pastoralists and 'settlers' did it 250 years ago.

The demonisation and treatment of asylum seekers by Australian governments of both persuasions made me feel sick - it made me feel ashamed to be Australian. I just had to write something about it to remind us all these are PEOPLE IN NEED, and that we are obliged by our humanity to help them as much as we can.
